What is C.O.P.E.?
The Coalition for Overcoming Problem Eating/Exercise (C.O.P.E.) is a group committed to maintaining a supportive campus environment that:
1. Encourages the development of healthy eating and exercise patterns.
2. Offers varied treatment resources for students to use when unhealthy patterns develop.
C.O.P.E. members include:
IU Health Center-
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) counselors
Health and Wellness dietitians
Physicians and nurse practitioners
Campus Recreational Sports- staff specialists in healthy exercise
Residential Programs and Services- staff who work to make living environments as healthy as possible
Athletic Department -staff who understand unique pressures on athletes
Bloomington community - specialists in eating disorders
To create a supportive campus environment, C.O.P.E. focuses on:
Prevention and education – sharing resources, the Coalition can increase the numbers of students reached
by flyers, workshops, screening days, and online information
Treatment – working together, the Coalition can refine such things as effective referral procedures and
share aggregate student responses to treatment
Policies and resources – as a team effort, C.O.P.E. can assist the campus in reducing the chances that
serious, complex disorders will harm students
